FCIAC Hall of Fame plaques to be displayed with Fairfield County Sports HOF at Chelsea Piers in Stamford

By July 10, 2019Uncategorized

The Fairfield County Sports Commission, Chelsea Piers Connecticut and the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) jointly announced today that the FCIAC’s Hall of Fame plaques will be displayed alongside the Commission’s Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame wall at Chelsea Piers in Stamford. It will be the first public home for the FCIAC awards since the league began its Hall of Fame in 1995.

“The FCIAC is very appreciative for the opportunity to have the names of our Hall of Fame members exhibited at Chelsea Piers next to those of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame’s honorees,” said FCIAC commissioner Dave Schulz. “Special thanks to both the Fairfield County Sports Commission and the administration at Chelsea Piers CT for making this happen. We look forward to adding to our plaques for years to come as both groups continue to recognize the best of the best of Fairfield County.”

“Chelsea Piers shares many of the same principles as the Fairfield County Sports Commission and the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC). We introduce thousands of children to sports every year, support and develop their skills as they grow up and coach our competitive athletes to achieve their full potential,” noted Greta Wagner, Executive Vice President, Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “We are thrilled to have the FCIAC represented in the Hall of Fame here at Chelsea Piers Connecticut.”

With the addition of the FCIAC’s plaques, including special awards named for two longtime FCIAC administrators and coaches John Kuczo and Ralph King (both FC Sports Hall of Famers as well), makes the Hall of Fame space on the second level of the Chelsea Piers sports complex even more of an attraction for county sports fans.

“The FCIAC’s presence is a perfect complement to our Hall of Fame showcase,” said Tom Chiappetta, Executive Director of the Sports Commission. “With two of this year’s honorees in Guy Whitten and the late Jack Casagrande, the total number of FCIAC Hall of Famers who have also been recognized in our Hall of Fame is now 16. It’s also very special that Paul Kuczo, one of the FCIAC’s first class in 1995, is having his plaque unveiled today along with his son John as 2018 inductees.”

The Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame, which has been sponsored for the past six years by the Aquarion Water Company, was housed at UConn Stamford for its first 13 years, before re-opening at Chelsea Piers CT in November 2018.
