Tom Chiappetta Named Executive Director for Fairfield County Sports Commission

NORWALK, CT – The Fairfield County Sports Commission named Tom Chiappetta as its new Executive Director it was announced today by Commission Vice-President Bob Mazzone.

Chiappetta had been the volunteer president of the Sports Commission board for the past two years. He assumes his duties as executive director immediately. A new president will be named soon.

“Having someone like Tom, who has been instrumental in the growth of the Commission, now handling the day-to-day operation of the Sports Commission on a full-time basis allows us to hit the ground running,” said Mazzone. “Tom is familiar with all of the Commission’s numerous initiatives. We are confident he can have an immediate impact on further raising the profile and success of the organization, and expanding its reach in the community.”

Chiappetta, a Stamford, CT native and Norwalk resident, has an extensive sports and media background. For the past 5 ½ years he was the National Director, Media Relations for FSN, the Fox Sports cable television network. He has more than 10 years experience working in the sports and entertainment TV business. In his nearly 30-year career in media, he has accumulated vast local and national industry contacts through his public relations, marketing, and promotion positions. He also was a sportswriter in Bridgeport for more than 10 years.

He has been involved in various capacities in a wide range of events, including the Super Bowl, MLB World Series and All-Star Games, PGA tour events, world championship boxing events, a Rolling Stones TV concert and WrestleMania.

As president of the Sports Commission, Chiappetta played an active role in many local events the Commission has supported, including the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and the Nutmeg State Games.

With the exception of the executive director position, the Fairfield County Sports Commission is an all-volunteer, non-profit, organization, and acts as a one-stop resource for the area’s sports community. The Commission’s mission is to improve the quality of life in Fairfield County through the compelling medium of sports, while also creating and supporting educational programs to promote fitness and a healthy lifestyle for children and youth organizations. In addition, the Commission serves as a vehicle to recruit top quality events to the area and to support and grow existing ones.
